Advantages of Thickener Tank for sludge treatment

3 like 2 dislike

Sludge solids concentration is a concentration that can usually be achieved without the use of separate thickening or dewatering facilities. In order to achieve any significantly higher concentrations, sludge concentration and Thickener Tank will be required. Designers need to evaluate the dewatering requirements for any planned sludge utilization/disposal operations and end uses.

Sludge concentration generally refers to the process of reducing the free water content of the sludge; however, dewatering refers to the reduction of floc and capillary water content in the sludge. Expectations for various thickening and dehydration processes, respectively.

The benefits of reducing sludge moisture content include:

Reduce the sizing requirements of the digester to achieve the same solids retention time;

Reduce heat exchange capacity requirements for anaerobic digestion;

Reduce sludge pumping and transportation costs;

Reduce final disposal costs;

Reduce treatment problems and leachate production during sludge landfill operations;

Size is determined for subsequent treatment or stable selection [eg sludge drying, autothermal aerobic digestion).

When considering the needs of sludge concentration and dewatering facilities, the designer should evaluate the economics of the entire process, with and without sludge water content reduction facilities. The assessment should consider the capital and operating costs of various plant components and the affected sludge treatment operations.
